I have but not for years. I would imagine the assault over the opening weekend pushed them to refuge areas. Good luck

Better get there REAL early and hope whoever is driving the boat knows the lake. If not don't wear your waders and always wear your pfd.

I don't know what part of the lake you are thinking about hunting, I am assuming the north end if you are going to try to walk in somewhere, but what I have seen from being up there fishing there isn't enough around to try to hunt, for me anyway. I am not saying there are not some geese around there but I wouldn't waste my time on it, just my $.02. Now later in the year when full on goose season gets going you might be able to do pretty good, but for now if I was going I would just take your fishing gear and keep the gun clsoe if something comes by.

Honker Cove is the refuge area which is open until 10/15 pretty darn good piece of the lake. There are few places you could actually walk with a goose rig and do well when there are geese on the lake. Do you live in KC or Salisbury? probably some descent ponds around the lake to hunt but those are locked up by others, public lands to hunt for honkers early season are few and far between.

I'll have to agree with Moswampy, your best bet early is probably going to be on a pond somewhere, and there just are not very many that are for open public hunting. Now I haven't been to Smithville in about 2 weeks, but last time I was there I had my eyes peeled to see if there was a spot to do a goose hunt and saw nothing that interested me at all. I would not go through the work of getting a goose spread out there until you do some scouting.

You might try Smithville. I think you would be better served to party with those college girls while you are in town. Sounds like a better deal to me.

If you did not make it to the waters edge on country roads in at least two places or make it to the Plattsburg put in way up river your scouting mission was not a success. Driving the main lake And looking at park birds is not where you want to be.

You hunt that pond? There is a lot of birds that use that thing. I have always wanted to hunt that thing. Does anyone else hunt that pond? If not I've seen you out there before.

first year I have had permission. I did some business deals with the property owner and obtained permission that way. The owner hunts it a couple times per year and that is it, he is not much of a duck hunter. As for goose hunting it we may or may not shoot it for geese, it is rare we get too fired up for honkers until there are a lot around to shoot.

Man, you are brave, giving exact locations out to hunt on the internet. Its your pond now, but you have 10 people the info and I have seen really solid connections busted over hunting.

I am not one to cyberscout, or give out locations.

You are a good man. I hope you have a great season....be careful

I am not worried about this place getting taken from me it is and has been a difficult place to even find out who the landowner is. If someone has to have it, good for them because monetarily it will cost more than a premium mound city lease.

It is private gives an idea which side they are moving off the lake toward. Long ago a person could hunt easily up that way just by asking

Its a little more of a drive but have you looked into Places like Pony Express, or other small conservation areas that have public hunting?
